If you had asked me 5 years ago if I could stitch together a video without iMovie, I would have laughed and said no. Now, after creating my Vaping PSA, I am confident in my abilities using Adobe Premiere Pro to edit and build a story through visuals and graphics. Initially, I was unsure if I would be able to create a decent Public Service Announcement because I had a basic understanding of Premiere Pro. I knew I wanted to create my PSA on vaping since that is one of the more common habits I see my friends pick up. One friend even fought me over her vape since I tried to hide it from her but she was so addicted that she needed it immediately. This made me more passionate about the message I wanted to share: “Save Your Lungs.”
To begin the process of creating my anti-vape PSA, I filled a two column storyboard with one side holding 3 second video clips to match longer messages that I was trying to get across. There were a few difficulties and changes in filming, but I was able to use my creativity to substitute video clips I would not be able to use or capture. My topic is more informational so I knew I needed a more direct speaking voice in my audio. All of these realizations and work processes are going to prepare me for my future career in Communication and life. Life has become more digital and tech based so in a few years, I could be relying on these new editing and film skills to succeed in my occupation and to use for fun recordings for my personal media use.
