Picking a topic for my mini documentary was the easiest part of this entire project. Even with that being the easiest part, I still struggled to land on just one topic. I decided to interview my roommate, Christie Tran, on her experience as a woman in ROTC. Once I had my topic, I realized I would need to think of B-Roll of ROTC related material. That was the most difficult part of the entire production. With Thanksgiving break, Christie’s busy schedule, and her early morning PT, it was difficult to find time to shoot footage. Once the script was written, I was able to visualize how the mini documentary would unfold. While there are some changes I will make to the edits, I am very proud of myself for creating this project. I have begun to feel more comfortable using the recording equipment and getting in touch with my creative side.

I still have much improvement in my editing and filming technique but I know as I keep making video projects, this will occur gradually over time. I learned how to edit transitions better, how to put different audio behind video clips, and how important it is to start the video with the most important point of the video. Learning how to make a larger video production, such as this mini documentary, will benefit me in the future since the potential career I want to go into will likely require the technological skills I used in this production. I thoroughly enjoyed this project and it made me understand how to overcome setbacks in film production and work with others to produce the ideal product. A lesson I learned during this project is that the final result will not likely be what you imagined, but it will come together the way it is supposed to.
